Marine Protected Areas: IMCRA

Next Page>>
<<Previous page

The Integrated Marine and Coastal Regionalisation of Australia (IMCRA) is a framework that looks at the ecological values of Australia's oceanic areas and classifies them into bioregions. Each of these bioregions will then be examined in more detail to determine decisions made across or within each bioregion.

NSW has 5 marine bioregions and one marine province. These are:

· Tweed-Moreton Bioregion
· Manning Shelf Bioregion
· Hawkesbury Shelf Bioregion
· Batemans Shelf Bioregion
· Twofold Shelf Bioretion
· Lord Howe Island Province

All bioregions need marine protected areas to protect their biodiversity since assemblages of species will be different in each.
