Fishing bodies pay industry advocate to criticse conservation report

March 09: NPA has learned that a review of The Torn Blue Fringe has been commissioned by a pro-fishing council. Rather than pay a marine parks scientist, an impartial scientist or a panel of scientists to undertake this task, ACoRF have paid a scientist who represents the fishing industry and vocally opposes current NSW marine park creation.

NPA therefore believes that, without objective analysis, the review process is fundamentally flawed and it's findings are agenda laden.

The Torn Blue Fringe was critically reviewed by a conservation scientist before it's release and it's scientific basis was deemed as a sound analysis of NSW state waters. The report additionally contains an extensive literature review of marine conservation science to back its proposals and its targets are consistent with calls from the vast majority of the marine science community.

NPA welcomes any scientific review of The Torn Blue Fringe undertaken in a non-agenda driven manner.
