Activities: HarbourKeepers

HarbourKeepers offers the community practical ways to protect, restore and explore Sydney Harbour.

HarbourKeepers extends from the seafloor to the water's surface, onto the beaches and surrounding bushland and includes Sydney Harbour's islands. HarbourKeepers offers a fun and social way to learn more about our marine environment and contribute to helping protect it.

HarbourKeepers involves volunteers in various activities including marine surveys, underwater and beach clean ups, bush regeneration, aquatic weed removal, volunteer training days, kids educational workshops and other community events in and around Sydney Harbour.

Launched by the NSW Acting Premier, Andrew Refshauge, on World Environment Day, June 2004, HarbourKeepers has a growing database of over 1000 volunteers, over 100 certified fish surveyors, over 200 fish surveys submitted, done activities at 34 Sydney Harbour sites & held over 100 organised events.

HarbourKeepers is now a multi-award winning program having won the 2007 Sydney Harbour Week Award for the Environment and the Prime Ministers Award, Excellence in Community Business Partnerships (NSW)
